“[Rae] Cole's evocative vocals capture the humanity behind heartbreak and disappointment, while Oscar Bugarin's steady acoustic strumming strengthens the emotional center of the song. The depth of their cascading harmonies recall the best of the 1960s and 70s Laurel Canyon movement.” - Broadway World Music

Calling Cadence released the live acoustic version of the fan favorite “Good Day” from their forthcoming acoustic EP, coming this fall.

“The live acoustic version…. has a great Laurel Canyon vibe anchored by the group’s harmonies.” - Twangville

Debut Album

The fourth single from Calling Cadence is out now!

“California Bartender” was written from the real-life perspective of Rae working as a bartender in Los Angeles. While the song has an uplifting summertime feeling, at its lyrical core are the very real and sometimes heartbreaking stories overhead from across the bar. This song is a window into the ups and downs of aspiring artists in Los Angeles, a city that can be unforgiving and merciless.

Just The Way It Goes

The third single from Calling Cadence is out now!

This song is a revenge song for anyone who has ever been ghosted, in addition to being a lament on modern-day dating. Oscar was listening to a lot of Motown and Sam Cooke when this song came about. “Oscar brought this song to the group, and described it as a slap in the face for people who ghost other people,” Rae told Folk n’ Rock magazine.

The Process

The debut album for Calling Cadence is a truly authentic full-analog recording. The instruments are performed and vocals are sung, in many instances at the same time—live! Recording analog was a conscience decision based upon the caliber of musicianship present on this record, as well as the studio being a full analog facility. Recorded on 2” magnetic tape through a Studer A827 tape machine, mixed analog through a 1972 API console, a collection of outboard gear and effects, and mixed down to ¼” magnetic tape on an Ampex ATR 102 tape machine. The ¼” reels were then taken to acclaimed mastering engineer, Kevin Gray, who cut the lacquer from the original master tape. For the ultimate experience of this music, pick up the vinyl. It is unlike any you have ever heard in contemporary music.
